Australians prefer to take out car, home and health insurance over life and income protection, according to a research report recently conducted by Lifebroker. The study revealed some interesting misconceptions and myths about life insurance & income protection. Some of the results of the survey concluded that:

  • Australian's worry about burglary as much as death
  • Only 54% of Australians have life insurance
  • Cost is the major factor for underinsurance
  • While some respondents hold life and income insurance within super, between half and two-thirds of these people accepted the default level of insurance which is typically very low

This report contains the findings of national online research involving 1,000 respondents aged 25 plus, concerning their attitudes, knowledge and behaviour towards life insurance and income protection.

We have visualised the key data collected and have produced an infographic (see below) to help you understand more about the naivety and profound lack of awareness of Australians when it comes to insuring themselves and their loved ones.
