Methods and Practices: Public Health Legal Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies in Ghana, a new book by Ishmael D. Norman, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

Methods and Practices is a detailed consideration of the imperative need for internally prepared programs for mitigating public heath emergencies in the region. The author warns against over-dependency on Western aid and intervention in response to infectious disease outbreaks, other health emergencies and natural and human-caused disasters. Norman argues persuasively that Sub-Sahara Africa has the intellect, knowledge and skills to design mitigation programs for emergencies, as well as to address the environmental problems resultant of the abusive practices of mining, oil and gas companies. This work lays out proposals to make meaningful progress toward maintaining the economic and security gains of some of the nations in Sub-Sahara Africa, and further safeguarding the future of the entire region.
