Brussels, February 8, 2012 - Visual PL/I is the first PL/I compiler written specifically for the .NET platform. It can be used to move workloads off the mainframe, and take advantage of the reduced cost and increased flexibility and versatility of the .NET platform.

Visual PL/1 has been developed to address the growing need of enterprise customers who have millions of lines of PL/I. These organizations would like to take advantage of the capabilities of .NET but have been constrained due to the high-cost of rewriting their PL/I based business logic. By supporting PL/I natively in .NET, enterprises can now pursue their modernization plans without the barrier of what to do with all their PL/I assets.

Darius Blasband, for RainCode: "Visual PL/I is a unique solution, to migrate workloads that are too complex or too big for alternate approaches to be applicable. We are very excited by the traction we are seeing in the market with this product."

"We constantly run into mainframe customers with a large inventory of applications written in PL/I," said Bob Ellsworth, Worldwide Director of Platform Modernization at Microsoft. "With solutions such as Visual PL/I, our customers further increase their options for modernizing their legacy applications."
