March 12, 2012 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
The Spar Great Ireland Run will return to Dublin's Phoenix Park on Sunday April 15th.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the 10 km race has grown rapidly since its inaugural event and is expected to welcome at least 12,000 participants for the 2012 edition.

The action will be broadcast live by Irish TV station RTE and athletes of all ages will be able to join in, as a Mini Run for five to eight-year-olds has been added to the programme this year.

Irish runner Fionnuala Britton, the European cross country champion, described the Great Ireland Run as an "amazing event" at the official launch in January.

She added: "The Phoenix Park is a stunning place to run and brings out the best in everyone, from five-year-olds to 75-year-olds."

Britton finished seventh in the women's race last year and is aiming to compete again in April. Most of Ireland's leading distance runners, as well as top athletes from around the world, are expected to take part.

Entry for amateur runners is still open, with online registration priced at €29 (£24.20).

Weary athletes may like to relax after the race in one of the many hotels in Dublin recommended by LateRooms.com, such as the Maldron Hotel Smithfield.
