Hiring in banking and financial services to remain cautious in 2012

March 23, 2012 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Banking and financial services professionals will have to wait for a resolution of the Eurozone financial crisis before hiring increases in the sector in 2012, according to the 13th edition of the Global Salary Survey by international recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

The second half of 2011 witnessed a decrease in hiring due to global economic uncertainty. The annual salary survey reports that the banking sector is expected to continue this cautious approach to hiring in 2012.

Firms are likely to remain pragmatic in their recruitment approaches, only hiring when business or market conditions allow. The findings suggest there will be a focus on replacement roles rather than increasing headcount, with a greater emphasis on securing high quality professionals.

Robert Walters' Director – Banking & Financial Services, Andrew Hanson said, "The hiring activities of financial services organisations will be largely be determined by the movements within the global economy. However if conditions stabilise we expect a degree of consumer confidence to return, and hiring levels across the finance market to increase. We hope to see Australia's strong domestic companies continue to weather any global fluctuations, as they proved they could post global financial crisis."

Now in its 13th year, the Robert Walters Global Salary Survey is the most comprehensive of its kind. Compiled by the company's dedicated research team and covering all 23 countries and disciplines in which Robert Walters specialises, the latest edition offers an overview of salaries and recruitment trends from 2011, as well as those expected in 2012.
