"Doom and gloom" market reports not enough to spook Australian professionals

Even with the prevalent negative market sentiment, an overwhelming 83% of professionals would still be prepared to change roles if there was an opportunity to do so, according to a recent survey by leading recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

This is despite almost 60% of professionals admitting that negative reports on market movement and global financial pressures make them feel less secure of their employment, and a further 62% would be concerned about their ability to find a job if they suddenly became unemployed in the current economy.

Interestingly, accounting professionals were most receptive to change, with 90% saying they would be prepared to move roles in the current climate.

According to Robert Walters' Managing Director - Australia James Nicholson, these findings indicate that although people are cautious, they are still open to better employment opportunities.

"Although there is still a high degree of uncertainty in the economy across Australia, professionals are prepared to look beyond this and are optimistic. In spite of the "doom and gloom" economic reports, people are still willing to make a move if that will make them happier professionally. It supports previous research we've done that indicates as a whole, the workforce in Australia tend to invest more care into work life balance and career progression, rather than the financial side of their jobs."

In other findings, professionals cited "changes in internal structure" as the event that made them feel most insecure at work, followed closely by market fluctuations, manager feedback and behaviour, their own performance, and performance of their team or colleagues.
