Resource boom draws in Accounting and Finance professionals

March 26, 2012 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
The resources boom spurred the demand for accounting & finance professionals in 2011 and is expected to continue driving recruitment in the sector in 2012, according to the 13th edition of the Global Salary Survey by international recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

The annual Salary Survey reports that demand for high calibre accounting professionals will grow in 2012, which will result in salaries increasing and a shortage of talented candidates.

Organisations in the mining, engineering and construction sectors will recruit in significant volumes due to the number of major projects progressing in the industry. The post natural disaster rebuild in Queensland as well as significant investment in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and coal seam gas (CSG) developments will also ensure consistent demand for talented accounting and finance professionals.

Robert Walters' Director – Commerce, Bradley Shotland said, "Despite the re-emergence of uncertainty surrounding the global economy, the resources and engineering sectors will guarantee consistent demand for accounting and finance professionals and although we are waiting to see what the outcome of the Eurozone financial crisis is, we expect demand for these candidates to continue in 2012."

The survey found that the increased demand led to a shortage of quality professionals throughout the year. With competition for these candidates set to continue in 2012, employers will need to be more flexible on salaries if they wish to compete for the best talent, as professionals from all over the country will be enticed by the remuneration offered in the resources sectors. Companies which consider adding non financial benefits to packages, such as flexible hours, extra holidays and an investment in career progression will continue to attract the strongest candidates.

Now in its 13th year, the Robert Walters Global Salary Survey is the most comprehensive of its kind. Compiled by the company's dedicated research team and covering all 23 countries and disciplines in which Robert Walters specialises, the latest edition offers an overview of salaries and recruitment trends from 2011, as well as those expected in 2012.
