The Great Saunter, an annual walk around the rim of Manhattan, offers people a unique way to explore the famous New York borough.
 
Due to take place for the 27th time on Saturday May 5th this year, the event traditionally attracts walkers from across the Big Apple and around the world.
 
The 32-mile route begins and ends at the South Street Seaport, passing through 20 parks and providing some spectacular waterside views along the way.
 
Walkers set off at 07:30 local time, with a break for lunch in Inwood Hill Park at 13:00. The Great Saunter finishes with a celebration at the Heartland Brewery on South Street at 19:00.
 
Registration is priced at $20 (£12.50) for non-members of the Shorewalkers - the group that organises the event. People planning to join the walk must pre-register online before Wednesday April 18th.
 
First-time participants are advised to wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for a walking pace that is steady, but not too fast, over mainly flat terrain.
 
For those who do not fancy completing the full 32 miles, there are specified points on the route where people can meet up with the walkers as they make their way round.
