(PRLEAP.COM) Britons fork out thousands of pounds in their lifetime on being guests at weddings, according to a recent survey. Findings by Debenhams reveal that the average Brit spends more than £500 each time a family or friend gets wed which equates to more than £7,500 in a whole lifespan because it is estimated that the average number of weddings attended is 15.Tying the knot for a bride and groom is costly as it is but it seems that guests are feeling the pinch too. The study of 1,000 adults found that the costs for a person to attend a wedding includes £150 on the stag or hen do, £80 on an outfit, £80 on drinks and £75 on a wedding present.
Further expenses consist of £65 on accommodation for the evening and £60 on travelling to and from the reception; totalling a massive £510.
And it is wedding guests in Dublin in Ireland who are squeezing the most pennies from their purse strings to win in the style stakes. According to the findings, the average person spends more than three times the average guest on their outfit in contrast to guests in London and Glasgow, who top the list for splashing the most cash on drinks.
Michelle Dowdall, a spokesperson from Debenhams, said: "There is no doubt that all over the UK, we love nothing more than seeing our nearest and dearest tie the knot, but the cost to do this can mount up without us realising."
