Gail Bracegirdle and John Treichler's exhibit Absorptions and Immersions opens Friday, June 8, at the Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ. The artists will host a reception at the Gallery on Saturday, June 9, from 5 to 8 pm. Their exhibit runs through July 1. Closing reception is on Sunday, July 1, from 1 to 3 pm.

In Absorptions and Immersions, Bracegirdle and Treichler examine the idea of how matter flows from one medium to another, as well as what it means to be mentally focused on something. They explore what it means to be absorbed in a pursuit, and utterly immersed in one's surroundings. The collection of watercolors and photographs invite viewers to become a part of the exhibit by immersing themselves in the details and complexity of the images presented. Absorption is a process of moving from one state to another, and visitors will be transformed after seeing the exhibit.

Bracegirdle, renowned for her watercolor paintings, is always looking for ways to challenge herself. "I've come to realize that if I don't find a painting a challenge, I'm just not interested in working on it - and, in this exhibit, I'm sharing two styles of watercolors. The floral paintings are executed on a unique and lovely paper handmade in India. A pencil drawing or sketch just isn't possible on it, so I'm required to closely observe the plants and paint in a very direct fashion. In each of the horizontal paintings there is a repetitive subject which allows me to compose an artistic composition on a single piece of paper. In these, I've planned a preliminary sketch of the mood and concept of each and hope the viewer will enjoy the rhythm of the images."

Treichler works in color and black and white photography, and has won awards for his evocative images. "I like the idea of how we absorb our surroundings, and how we are absorbed by our surroundings. Lambertville is a small town by the river, and the river has shaped the people as much as the people have shaped the river. I want visitors to be drawn into my work and just soak in the images for a while, to see if there is anything there that they recognize as their own experience."
