Mohawk Flooring's Facebook Contest Rewards the Messy Kids

BURLINGTON, Mass., May 21, 2012 – While kids are usually reprimanded when they make a mess, Mohawk Flooring's Messiest Kid Contest on Facebook may instead have parents cheering on their child's dirty deeds. As a way to promote the resilience of its hard- and soft-surface products available at Mohawk flooring dealers, the brand has invited parents to submit a photo or video of their kid's messy moment for a chance to win some big prizes. Evidence of messy youngsters in action can be uploaded through Mohawk's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mohawkflooring

The contest is running from April 1 until June 30, with one winner from each month receiving a $100 Toys R Us gift card in addition to a 9-by-12 bound Mohawk SmartStrand carpet. The April, May and June winners will then become finalists for the grand prize and compete head-to-head in a Facebook vote-off. The top vote-getter between July 1 and July 15 will be able to choose either a vacation for four to Walt Disney World or a $10,000 room makeover with HGTV designer Taniya Nayak.

"Everyone with kids knows just how quickly things can get messy, but with a stain-resistant carpet like Mohawk's SmartStrand you can focus on enjoying your child's quirks rather than worrying about the cleanup," said Barry Greenberg, sales manager of A.J. Rose Carpets & Flooring, a Greater Boston flooring store. "Whether it's chocolate, finger paint or muddy shoes, SmartStrand shrugs it all off and looks great day after day. Mohawk's Facebook contest is a creative way to let buyers know that."

Mohawk says its SmartStrand line is the only carpeting available with built-in stain and soil resistance, which outlasts the protection in treated materials that wears or washes away over time. Instead of being sprayed on following production or after purchase, SmartStrand's protection is worked into the fibers as the carpet is made, allowing Mohawk to offer a lifetime stain and soil warranty.

Those same stain-resistant fibers also make SmartStrand a more eco-friendly choice than nylon-based carpets. Using DuPont Sorona polymers made partially from corn, SmartStrand carpets require less energy and emit less greenhouse gases during production, and they are made with fewer petroleum-based materials. Mohawk claims that seven square yards of 40-ounce SmartStrand carpet saves the equivalent of one gallon of gasoline.

"SmartStrand is a green product from start to finish," Greenberg added. "It not only requires fewer resources to produce, but thanks to its stain resistance, the carpet requires less water and harsh cleaning chemicals to keep it looking and smelling fresh. SmartStrand is more than just the eco-friendly choice; it's the logical choice."
