Richard P. Slaughter Associates Raises $30,000 for Austin Charities at 4th Annual Client Appreciation Golf Tournament

Richard P. Slaughter Associates, an Austin-based wealth management firm, awarded a check for $30,000 to local charities on June 4, 2012 at the 4th Annual Golf for Charity Classic at Twin Creeks Country Club. Proceeds benefited three key Central Texas nonprofits including Texas Parent to Parent, For the Love of Christi and CARY Council on At-Risk Youth, each receiving $10,000.

"Austin is our community, it's where we've grown our business for the last two decades, and it's where we are raising our families," said Brooks Slaughter, President and CEO of Richard P. Slaughter Associates. "Our annual golf tournament is one way for us to thank our clients in the best way we know, by coming together to make a significant impact to local charities."

Four years ago, the team at Slaughter Associates turned their client appreciation event into a charitable golf tournament and the results have been phenomenal. Since the event's inception, Slaughter Associates has raised a grand total of $90,000, with $30,000 to Texas Parent to Parent, For the Love of Christi and CARY Council on At-Risk Youth.

"The golf tournament promotes The Christi Center's vision of spreading awareness, education and support to people who are grieving a loss, and Slaughter Associates' investment in The Christi Center ensures that Central Texans will have access to grief support whenever they need it," said Cara Fox, Executive Director of For the Love of Christi.

The nonprofits were chosen by Slaughter Associates employees, following employee and client volunteer service and engagement. The company felt that it was important to select small nonprofits based on where they and their clients volunteer their service as well as where their donations would go a long way.

The impact of Slaughter's investment in these charities has been significant. Donations have enabled The Christi Center to continue to provide ongoing grief support services at no cost to children and adults who are adjusting to life after the death of a loved one. The heart of Texas Parent to Parent's services is the parent-to-parent match, which includes pairing a trained parent volunteer with a new family or a family facing a new issue with their child. The match process takes TxP2P staff about 10 hours each, while the combined cost associated with the match services and trainings are upwards of $1,200. The impact of Slaughter's donation to TxP2P has funded 57 matches, all 10 trainings or a combination of the two.

"The Richard P. Slaughter Associates Golf Tournament has been an incredible gift for Texas Parent to Parent," said Laura J. Warren, Executive Director of TxP2P. "Fundraisers can take an inordinate amount of time and energy to plan with no guarantee that they will be successful or even cover your expenses. Slaughter Associates takes all of that off our plate and just has us attend the event to share our mission with the golfers. This allows Texas Parent to Parent more time and crucial funding to provide support, information and education to parents across the entire state of Texas who have children with disabilities or other special health care needs."

The charity golf tournament brought in over 175 golfers, while many companies sponsored the event in support of the local charities including: Further Lane Income Solutions; CWS Capital Partners LLC; American Century Investments and TD Ameritrade.
