Alex's Coupons was launched by Todd & Andrea Martini in October 1999. The inspiration for the site was their daughter Alexandra, who was diagnosed with Leukemia in November 1998 at the age of 10 months. In September 1999 the Martini family relocated cross-country to Durham NC, so Alex could undergo a lifesaving Cord Blood Transplant. During that time the Martinis' financial situation was very precarious. At the suggestion of a friend, Todd Martini started Affiliates for Alex, a collection of affiliate links designed to raise money for Alex's transplant. This website would later evolve into Alex's Coupons. Over the last six years Alex's Coupons has provided coupons and deals to millions of consumers, while educating them about Childhood Cancer.

In addition to Alex's Coupons, the Martinis are very involved in activism and fundraising on behalf of several organizations, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Starlight Starbright. "We are putting out this press release in the hope that it will encourage other small businesses to become more involved in supporting this fantastic organization, which helped us greatly during our daughter's Alex's transplants, and has helped countless other children with Cancer and their families," said co-founder Todd Martini."

“The National Children’s Cancer Society is grateful for the generous support of Alex’s Coupons,” said Krista Rudd, Communications Director for the N.C.C.S. “As a family who has battled cancer, the Martinis understand all too well the emotional and financial stress a childhood cancer diagnosis brings. Their gift will provide hope for families during a very difficult time.”
