Soaring Spirits Loss Foundation Launches "You Are Not Alone" Campaign

Simi Valley, CA - According to the U.S. Census Bureau 800,000 people are widowed each year in the United States; and for this population, there is a constant struggle to find support communities due to the isolation often associated with acute grieving. When Soaring Spirits Loss Foundation (SSLF) was founded in 2008, it was for the purpose of filling this need. In keeping with its mission, SSLF is excited to announce the launch of a new campaign – "You Are Not Alone" on June 23, International Widows' Day. "We chose International Widows' Day to launch this new program for two reasons; to bring awareness to the fact that widowhood happens to people of all ages and circumstances in every country around the world and to reassure the widowed community that there is hope," said Michele Neff Hernandez, founder and executive director of SSLF.

The "You Are Not Alone" campaign features business size cards with information about Soaring Spirits Loss Foundation's Newly Widowed Checklist and on-line forum the Widowed Village, as well as other web and print media components. The idea is to provide these cards as hand outs to a newly widowed person, their friends, family, or member of their support system to let them know that the programs of SSLF are designed to connect them with other widowed people, at no cost, any time of the day or night.

"No one wants to join the Widowed Club, but it sure helps to know that you are not alone when the word "widow" suddenly applies to you. We thought that International Widows' Day was the perfect time to come together as a community to share this powerful message to anyone who is widowed, and struggling through it alone," commented Ms. Hernandez. International Widows' Day was introduced to address poverty and injustice faced by widows and their children in many countries. It was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2011 and is observed annually on June 23.
