Jamaica, NY Author Publishes New Book

Wasted Lives, a new book by Evrard M. Williams, has been released by RoseDog Books.

This book was written for the expressed purpose of drawing attention to the mindless slaughter of black and Hispanic youths in New York during the 1970s and 1980s. This slaughter continues today in most major cities of the United States.

The reader will get a glimpse into the calculations and the minds of the detectives who investigate homicides. The hard truth about how life is lived where the rubber meets the road will become clear. The reader will feel the agony of the victim's family and of the killer's family as well.

This book is unique because the author, having been a homicide detective for fifteen years, was taking part in a homicide investigation that involved a member of his own family. The reader will also see how unlike TV, investigators have to juggle several cases at the same time. The title is fitting, given that many lives go to waste over nothing at all.

About the Author

Evrard Williams was born in the Dominican Republic in 1943. In 1949 his family migrated to New York. The author was educated here and was accepted to the New York City Police Department, where he became one of their best homicide detectives.

The author met Gloria Thomas, who was the Director of Community Affairs for WCBS-TV, while investigating the killing of her fourteen-year-old son, Michael. In time the author and Gloria fell in love and were married. Both were concerned with the crimes taking place in the community. Then Joey Thomas, Gloria's twenty-year-old son, was murdered. The author was obligated to take part in the investigation of another of Gloria's children.

Today one cannot open a newspaper without reading about someone having been shot by teenagers at the beach, boardwalk or just coming out of a store or pharmacy. We lost about 5,000 Americans in the Vietnam War over ten years of open warfare. It would be safe to say that we lose that many Americans here in one year to street violence.

Wasted Lives is a 178-page paperback with a retail price of $15.00. The ISBN is 978-1-4349-8814-0. It was published by RoseDog Books of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
