MONKEYS WITH MACHINEGUNS SIGN DEAL WITH OPEN BOOK PRESS TO PUBLISH QUARTERLY ANTHOLOGY
(
PRLEAP.COM) Open Book will be taking the comic forward as of issue #1 (the second issue, following MWM’s release of issue #0 in May of this year), and promise to bring Monkeys with Machineguns to a much wider audience.
Established last year by writer Chris Lynch (
www.planetofthepenguins.com) and artist Stuart Tipples (
www.stu-artonline.com), Monkeys with Machineguns self published the critically well received “Monkeys with Machineguns: In Heaven and Hell” in May of 2005.
Now preparing for the run up the Brighton Comic Expo (
www.comicexpo.biz), Monkeys with Machineguns have launched a prose and comic anthology entitled “The Hammer of Time” to raise money for the Red Cross (
www.redcross.org) and the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Available online, the book is the culmination of months of work by the team to bring together artists and writers worldwide in aid of this very worthy cause.
142 pages long and featuring artwork and stories from a host of independent creative talents, the book offers readers a chance to donate money to a very worthy cause whilst enjoying some of the best of the independent comics and writing scene.
The book is one sale now, priced at $19.99 at online print-on-demand provider Lulu (
www.lulu.com/mwm) with a $12.50 download version also available. Every sale guarantees a donation of $10 to the Red Cross. Monkeys with Machineguns, and the assembled contributors to the book, have all donated their time and work for free to this project.
MWM Editor Chris Lynch (
www.planetofthepenguins.com) had this to say on the project as a whole: “This has been a difficult project to put together, especially as we wanted to get the book on sale as quickly as possible, but we are very pleased with the end result and are looking forward to seeing the donations come in. Our thanks goes out to all the people who have contributed their art, stories, and time to the project with us, and we hope they feel as good about it now as we do. This is a great book for a great cause.”
