New Medical Journal Report Claims FDA Approves Drugs That Might Compromise Patient Health

(New York, NY, September 11, 2012) The Rottenstein Law Group, which represents clients with claims stemming from the severe side effects of various prescription drugs, and complications caused by dangerous medical devices, has learned with great dismay that an article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) concludes that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allowed dangerous drugs to be marketed.

According to an article appearing in JAMA prepared by two drug-safety experts, the FDA's efforts to speed up the availability of new drugs for stroke prevention, cancer and multiple sclerosis resulted in the approval of drugs that carry very high risks to those who take them.

Among these risky drugs is the blood thinner Pradaxa.

Pradaxa, a member of the direct thrombin inhibitors class of drugs, is an anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication. It is prescribed to prevent strokes and to treat serious blood clots. The drug's side effects, however, include nausea, severe dizziness, bleeding gums, and expectoration of blood.

The authors of the JAMA article address the bleeding risk associated with Pradaxa and note that "no antidote is available for use in bleeding emergencies" caused by the drug.

The Rottenstein Law Group maintains a Pradaxa Lawsuit Information Center at www.rotlaw.com/pradaxa/ to provide comprehensive information to the public about specific dangerous drugs and defective medical devices. Those who wish to learn about the dangers of Pradaxa and the utility of legal action should visit the site for more information. (Attorney advertising.
