Do you have a large, heavy bust? Does the extra weight lead to back pain, poor posture, excessive sweating and other problems? If so, breast reduction surgery could help says a cosmetic surgery website.

According to Cosmetic Surgery Guru – which offers advice and information around surgical and non-surgical procedures – a mammoplasty is one of the best ways to reduce the size of the chest and can ease physical discomfort significantly.

Isabella Franklin, a spokeswoman for the site said: "While many women long for a bigger bust, others wish for a little less upfront. Why? Well because big boobs can cause backache, neck pain, skin rashes, infections, self-consciousness and depression. Of course, these physical and psychological problems don''t affect everyone, but they are very real concerns that need to be addressed".

She continued: "The great thing about breast reduction surgery is that it can help women who are unhappy with their breasts and can cure a lot of ailments. It helps ladies to regain their confidence after pregnancy, breast-feeding and weight loss and is sometimes available on the NHS – depending on the individual circumstances of each patient."

During a breast reduction, fat, glandular tissue and skin are removed from the breasts to make them smaller. They're then reshaped as necessary and the nipples are repositioned to be in line with the middle of the upper arm. Surgery of this kind is available at reputable clinics across the UK and can be used to improve uneven breasts.

As well as women, men can also suffer from enlarged breasts. This is known as gynaecomastia and can be caused by obesity, dramatic weight loss, hormonal imbalances, congenital abnormalities and certain diseases. Often, breast size can be reduced naturally with a good diet or medication, but sometimes surgery is considered.

Audit figures from The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) reveal that breast reduction surgery was the third most popular type of cosmetic surgery in 2011. A total of 5,291 men and women went under the knife and figures were up 6.7 per cent from 2012.
