NASHUA, N.H., Oct. 30, 2012 — Audi set its sights on active drivers when it designed the new 2013 Audi allroad, and according to the results of the Carspondent.com Active Lifestyle Vehicle (ALV) of the Year awards, it can appeal to even the most dedicated athletes. The all-weather-capable Audi wagon earned top marks in the Luxury On-Road category after more than 70 elite athletes and a panel of journalists weighed in as judges, proving that its combination of luxury and versatility connects with sports-minded drivers.

ALV judges got together in Chandler, Ariz. on Oct. 20 to hear manufacturer presentations and then drive 28 different vehicles through on- and off-road courses. The athletes not only considered each vehicle's performance, but how well it could impact their participation in their sport. For example, bicyclists may have thought about how easily they could load their bikes into the cargo area, or kayakers may have wanted to know if a vehicle could ford shallow water to get to remote launch locations. Votes from the athletes represented 50 percent of the final tally, while the panel of journalists accounted for the other half. Only seven vehicles earned an ALV of the Year award.

"Whether you're planning to go for an intense mountain-bike ride or just a round of 18 holes, you want the drive to your destination to be the least of your worries," said Larry Bedell, general manager of Audi of Nashua, an Audi dealer in New Hampshire. "The Audi allroad has plenty of space for any kind of sports gear, and it will get you where you're going stylishly and comfortably, no matter what New England's weather has in store."

Sales of the Audi allroad helped push the luxury brand to its best ever September in the United States last month. Marking its 21st-consecutive month of record sales, Audi sold 12,302 units overall in September, a 27-percent increase year-over-year. The automaker's year-to-date sales have already eclipsed 100,000 units, a milestone that has only been passed two other times in Audi's history.

Leading the sales charge for Audi this year is its A4 lineup, which includes the Audi allroad model. Through September, sales of the Audi A4 are up 7 percent year-over-year, with more than 28,000 models sold. Last month alone, A4 sales increased 13 percent compared to September 2011, with 3,035 units finding new homes.

Refreshed for the 2013 model year, the Audi A4 sports a new grille with angled upper corners, a more expressive hood design and sleeker headlamps that can be fitted with available LED daytime running lights. Inside, drivers will find a simpler control layout for technologies like the MMI Navigation system and three-zone climate control, while Fine Nappa leather upholstery is also now available for that extra dose of luxury.

"For years, the Audi A4 has paced sales of the brand with its smart pricing and top-level amenities, but the updated 2013 model is the most complete package yet," Bedell noted. "Audi has made tweaks to the exterior that modernize the A4 without disturbing its sense of sophistication, and inside, the technology is more advanced yet easier to use than ever before."
