Gender discrimination still present in the modern workplace
November 15, 2012 Entertainment News(PRLEAP.COM) The majority of professionals believe gender discrimination still exists in their workplace, according to the latest survey from specialist recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.
The study surveyed over 900 professionals, and was used to create the report 'Gender discrimination - How it affects professionals career choices'. It found that 75% believe gender discrimination still exists at work. A further 55% believe it is more difficult for a woman to be successful at work, and 48% believe women still receive less pay than their male counterparts.
Erica Lindberg, Robert Walters Director adds, "Gender equality has always been a high profile topic, and has been increasingly in focus thanks to current events. Organisations should want to close the gap and have a more diverse workplace, consistently shown to be more profitable, engaging and productive. Ensuring that gender is no hurdle will increase access to talent and make your organisation an employer of choice."
The survey also found that male and female professionals have conflicting views on gender balance in the workplace. Only 55% of women feel there are enough women in senior roles within the organisation they work for. In contrast, 75% of men think women populate enough senior roles.
