Uptown Players Honored with Two Dallas Critics Forum Awards

Uptown Players has been recognized by critics for North Texas' top publications with two 2003 Dallas Critics Forum Awards. The performing arts group received Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Performance by an Actor honors for its production of the musical comedy Ruthless!.

The Dallas Critics Forum hailed Andi Allen for Outstanding Direction and Coy Covington was honored with an Outstanding Performance by an Actor Award in Ruthless!.

The Dallas Critics Forum considered productions that opened between Sept. 1, 2002, and Aug. 31, 2003 for this year's award. Voting members were Lawson Taitte, Tom Sime and Nancy Churnin, The Dallas Morning News; Arnold Wayne Jones, The Dallas Voice; Martha Heimberg, The Weekly in Dallas; and Mark Lowry and Perry Stewart, Star-Telegram.

The Trinity River Arts Center also received a special award for providing valuable, comfortable and much needed performing space to many small local companies, such as Uptown Players, Theatre Britain and the Classical Acting Company, as well as small, quality touring shows.
