New BMW M6 Gran Coupe Set for Debut at Detroit Auto Show

NORWELL, Mass., Jan. 03, 2013 — When the Detroit Auto Show opens on Jan. 14, one of the most anticipated cars debuting in the Motor City will be the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. As the third body type for the M6 high-performance sports car, the Gran Coupe features the same pulse-racing performance as the M6 Coupe and M6 Convertible, but it adds rear doors and a more spacious rear seat that can easily accommodate two additional passengers.

Arriving at dealerships in early summer, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine producing 560 horsepower, which is about 10 percent more than the V10 from the previous M6 generation and the highest output ever in a BMW M car. Torque has also increased by more than 30 percent to 500 pound-feet. Outside, bespoke M styling, including a carbon-fiber roof and an exclusive signature M kidney grille, gives the M6 Gran Coupe an athletic, aggressive appearance. Meanwhile, an M-tailored cockpit offers bolstered seat support for sporty driving and leather-trimmed comfort for traveling long distances.

"BMW M models are designed to thrill their drivers, and the M6 Gran Coupe will deliver that excitement to show-goers in Detroit as well as to our customers when it arrives at our dealership," said Avery Trumbo, General Manager of Greater Boston BMW dealer BMW Gallery of Norwell. "Thanks to a new body style that marries the adrenaline-pumping performance of the M line with the practicality of a four-door vehicle, the Gran Coupe can serve double duty as a daily driver during the workweek and as a relentless machine for back roads on the weekends."

Drivers who want to add M performance to their standard BMW vehicles now have more options for upgrades. The automaker recently released a new wave of BMW M Performance Parts designed for the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series sedan models, allowing motorists to customize their cars into race-worthy vehicles.

Among the new M Performance Parts are aerodynamic upgrades, including a rear spoiler for the 3 Series and a rear diffuser for either model that help cheat the wind on the road. A new performance exhaust uses modern technology and stainless steel to improve the exhaust note and output, while 20-inch double-spoke alloy wheels for the 3 Series and V-spoke wheels for the 5 Series add a unique look to M-enhanced models.

"Enthusiasts who like to customize their BMW models for the racetrack will find a satisfying mix of function and style in the new range of M Performance Parts," added Trumbo. "Even models that didn't originally come with the M Sport Package can benefit from the M Sport Line Retrofit kit that is available now for the 3 Series and is coming to the 5 Series later this year."
