2014 Lexus IS Debuts at Detroit Auto Show with Aggressive New Look

MASSAPEQUA PARK, N.Y., Jan. 18, 2013 — Lexus' latest push to appeal to a more youthful audience received a jolt of energy last week when the luxury automaker revealed its all-new 2014 Lexus IS. The compact sports sedan debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, donning the brand's new signature spindle grille, sharp lines and an aggressive stance.

When the redesigned IS arrives at dealerships this June, it will be available in IS 250 and IS 350 variants, each with rear-wheel- or all-wheel-drive options. The previous engines, a 2.5-liter V6 and a 3.5-liter V6, carry over from the previous generation, while the sedan's exterior receives a significant overhaul, including a new headlamp cluster set off by L-shaped daytime running lights underneath. Nearly three inches of length have been added to the wheelbase as well, increasing legroom in the rear seats.

"The assertive look of the next-gen IS is another great result of Lexus' new design direction, which is focused on creating uncompromising vehicles that look like nothing else," said William Finsilver, general manager of Lexus of Massapequa, a Long Island Lexus dealer. "It will definitely help Lexus appeal more to driving enthusiasts, and since the IS already has the youngest luxury buyer in the industry, the redesign will only help reinforce its youthful attraction."

The new Lexus IS received just as much attention inside its cabin from designers. With an interior theme similar to that of the Lexus GS and LS, the IS features a sleek new dashboard that sweeps horizontally, as well as a new driver's seat with a lower hip point and improved lateral support to complement the car's athletic performance. New 60/40 split-folding rear seats offer increased cargo capacity, while an industry-first subscription-free real-time traffic and weather system is provided through the vehicle's HD radio.

For buyers who want an extra dose of performance, an F SPORT trim is available on either the IS 250 or 350, with or without all-wheel drive. Recalibrated steering and a specially tuned suspension will enhance the IS F SPORT's handling for drivers eager to tackle tight corners, and a new sliding instrument panel inspired by the Lexus LFA supercar provides a constant stream of relevant driving information. Meanwhile, an exclusive reworked spindle grille gives the F SPORT a more hard-hitting look while letting in more cooling air for sportier performance.

"The IS F SPORT has that extra 'it' factor that turns more heads during your commute and makes your exploration of back roads on weekends that much more engaging," added Finsilver. "From the bolder grille to the LFA-derived gauges, the F SPORT will draw in younger drivers who want a performance-driven vehicle without compromising on luxury."
