How to Play or edit Canon Legria HF G/R/M AVCHD files on Mac?
Different cameras create videos in different file formats. As to Canon Legria HF series, most of their creations are in AVCHD MTS/M2TS file format.
To play Legria AVCHD recordings on Mac, the VLC media player should be a good choice instead of the QuickTime.

When it comes to editing Legria AVCHD videos, it depends. Some users claimed that they have once succeeded in using iMovie'11 or Final Cut Pro X to edit the Legria AVCHD shootings, however, since both of these two editors are less compatible with AVCHD than claimed, the results may sometimes be disappointing.
To make AVCHD videos perfectly editable on Mac, converting Canon Legria to iMovie or FCP-friendly format such as MOV would be better.

How to Transfer/Convert Sony Cybershot/Handycam videos to iPhoto/iMovie/iTunes?
Both the Sony Cybershot and Handycam series camcorder models produce HD videos in AVCHD video format. As have been mentioned above, AVCHD files are not compatible with iMovie /iTunes , so the best solution for transferring these videos to iMovie/iTunes is to convert Sony Handycam to iMovie or iTunes-friendly format.

As to iPhoto, iPhoto version 9.3.1 and above can directly recognize AVCHD MTS/M2TS file. Therefore, updating iPhoto to 9.3.1 or later version would be a smart choice. But remember, the update requires at least Mac OS X 10.7. Don't want to do the update? Simply convert Sony Cybershot to iPhoto is OK!

How to Convert Panasonic SDR series MOD to Mac QuickTime, iMovie, FCP X, etc?
Panasonic SDR series, including SDR-S and SDR-H, records videos in MOD file format. MOD is another kind of HD videos, encoded with MPEG-2, which is mainly used by Panasonic and some other kinds of camcorders. Unfortunately, again, all those Mac-based software such as QuickTime, iMovie, and FCP X, are not familiar with MOD videos. No better choice but to convert Panasonic MOD to Mac-friendly video format via a third-party MOD converter if you want to edit the files on Mac.
