Plastic Surgeon Plans Independent Medical Mission Trips to Nicaragua and Haiti

February 07, 2013 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Marisa Lawrence is planning two independent volunteer mission trips to Chinandega, Nicaragua and Les Cayes, Haiti. She estimates she'll be able to perform between 50 and 100 surgical procedures for members of these communities.

Dr. Lawrence and her husband have been organizing four trips per year for the past five years, seeing between 200-300 patients per week. With the help of a group of physician- assistant students, Dr. Lawrence is able to perform plastic and general surgery procedures, including treatment of burns, abdominal wall hernias, breast masses, infections and facial reconstruction. The team also provides primary care services as needed.

Independent of any larger medical group, Dr. Lawrence and her husband cover the funding for staff and medications. The team solicits donations from vendors for the necessary surgical and medical supplies.

In addition to the mission trip, Dr. Lawrence is planning the upcoming release of her new practice website. The website, which is coming soon, will feature information about her professional background, an explanation of the procedures she offers and before-and-after photographs of former patients.
