Infographic by TurboMetrics Highlights U.S. Employment Growth by State

February 21, 2013 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Today TurboMetrics.com released a new infographic showing U.S. employment growth by state over the past month, year, three and five year periods. Using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, this infographic quickly shows which states were hit the hardest by the recession (and which weren't) and also how they have progressed over the past few years.

As visualized in the infographic, the top three states hit the hardest in the past five years were Nevada, Arizona, and Florida. These states were also among the hardest hit by the housing crash, which resulted in big losses in construction related employment. While real estate prices have appreciated in many parts of the country since the end of the recession, real estate related employment still isn't fully recovered.

The fastest growing areas over the past five years were North Dakota, Washington DC, and Texas. These areas were among the few that never saw negative job growth over the past five year period. Washington DC's economy has been bolstered by federal hiring. North Dakota and Texas, on the other hand, have seen big improvements in job growth over the past five years largely due to domestic oil production.

While growth has picked up considerably over the past one and three year periods in the United States, in most states there is still a long way to go to get back to even.
