Pair of Buick Sedans Earn U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards

WASHINGTON, N.J., March 4, 2013 — While value is important in any vehicle segment, upmarket-car buyers expect their purchases to be just as fulfilling on the road as they are easy on their bank accounts. U.S. News & World Report recently honored the Buick Verano and Regal for delivering on that mix of performance and practicality, presenting each sedan with a 2013 Best Cars for the Money Award.

Factoring in critical acclaim as well as long-term value, the 2013 U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards honor the top vehicle in each segment based not only on the opinions of the automotive press, but also on a wide range of industry research. U.S. News editors considered average price paid and five-year cost of ownership from TrueCar.com, reliability data from J.D. Power and Associates, and crash-test results from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. After scores were tallied, the Buick Verano topped the Upscale Small Cars category, while the Buick Regal led the Upscale Midsize Cars segment.

"Typically, the more affordable a car is, the more its automaker skimps on interior materials and features, but U.S. News praised the Verano and Regal for their low ownership costs as well as their serene and sophisticated cabins," said Ed Rossi, owner of Rossi Chevrolet Buick GMC, a New Jersey Buick dealership. "Verano and Regal customers get to treat themselves to luxuries like the brand's QuietTuning technology and IntelliLink infotainment system, and if there is any question that these are not your father's Buicks, there are available performance trims for added fun on the back roads."

On sale since late last year, the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo features a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that pumps out 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, allowing the premium compact sedan to sprint from zero to 60 mph in an estimated 6.2 seconds. Despite the Turbo trim's aggressive exhaust growl and overall responsiveness, Buick engineers were able to maintain the Verano's acclaimed cabin quietness by minimizing wind and road noise with QuietTuning technology.

As one of the inspirations for the Verano Turbo, the 2013 Buick Regal GS features the same 2.0-liter engine, but the unit is tuned to produce 270 horsepower, or 135 horsepower per liter, making it the most power-dense engine to be certified by the Society of Automotive Engineers. All that output is effectively controlled with the help of a lower ride height, Brembo front calipers, Interactive Drive Control System suspension technology with exclusive GS-mode, and 19-inch wheels.

"The Verano Turbo and Regal GS essentially give buyers excellent performance without sacrificing value or comfort," added Rossi. "Their owners get more excitement out of their daily commutes, yet they still benefit from lower day-to-day costs and Buick's smooth, signature ride."
