In an ongoing effort to assure the highest e-commerce standards Dwayne Samuels of Commerce America endorsed the Merchant Risk Council Code of Ethics to all Commerce America's banking clients.

The Merchant Risk Council was established to further the fundamentals and standards of good practices for merchants in the e-commerce environment to identify industry trends of common interest among card not present (CNP) merchants and become a voice in the payments industry.

This vision allows MRC to pursue new technology in the Internet industry that will enable e-commerce merchants to guard against fraudulent activity, and positively influence customer perception of online ordering security thereby increasing business conducted online.

MRC's Board of Directors is made up of nine leading e-commerce retailers including Amazon, American Eagle, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Expedia, HP, Yahoo and Zale Corporation. Additionally, the Board includes three non-merchants, who are leaders in the e-commerce fraud prevention arena: American Express, ClearCommerce and Experian.

The Merchant Risk Council hosted their first annual conference in Las Vegas in March 2003 for its members. American Express, Visa and MasterCard sponsored the conference. This event marked an important milestone in the e-commerce industry with merchants and card associations working together to exchange best practices and reduce fraud.

Commerce America clients will now have access MRC resources, as well as, to the Premier Debit - ScoreCard Rewards Program, which features $1,000 Identity Theft Reimbursement Insurance, Identity Theft Victim Assistance, Extended Warranty and 90-Day Product Protection, the ScoreCard Bonus Points Rewards and Personal Shopper Programs. Premier Debit is administered by Certegy, the leader in product support to the e-commerce and banking industry.

Commerce America clients will soon receive an insert within their initial start-up kits, statements and email announcement, explaining how to take advantage of these important account features.
