Cosmetic Injectables Becoming Hot Holiday Gift

Giving the gift of fuller lips or wrinkle-free skin. Sound too good to be true? Well it shouldn't. Each holiday season, thousands of Americans are presenting special people in their life with the gift of cosmetic injectables, resulting in a booming winter business for many medical spas.

The Minnesota-based Skin Rejuvenation Clinic is one medical spa noticing such trends in their holiday injectable business. "This is our first year open and although we expected to sell many facial, peel and microdermabrasion gift packages, we didn't expect to see as many Botox and Restylane gift certificates being purchased," said Elizabeth Hagberg, MD, owner and Board-Certified physician. "Needless to say, we are pleasantly surprised."

Dr. Hagberg, who owns the Skin Rejuvenation Clinic with her husband, Board-Certified cosmetic physician Mark Hagberg, MD, says although there are more gift options available today than there were a decade ago, many people today see Botox and Restylane injections as the ideal gift, a luxury that keeps giving long past Christmas.

"Botox injections will diminish forehead wrinkles and crow's feet for up to three months, while Restylane injections, a filler used to plump lips and smooth deeper lines in the face, can last for six months, " Dr. Elizabeth said. "How many gifts will allow women or men to have dramatically younger looking skin for up to half a year? The appeal is in the longevity."

Dr. Mark Hagberg said that their goal now is to address the misconception that these treatments are only for the rich… and vain. "Most of our patients are not living indulgent lifestyles. They are just people seeking a more energized appearance. Many times people are amazed at how quickly Botox or Resylane injections made them look less tired and more youthful," he said. "Also, the cost associated with these cosmetic treatments are surprisingly lower than people expect. It's an affordable option for people who don't want cosmetic surgery, yet are looking for results."

Elizabeth Hagberg M.D. graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and a degree in Medicine. She is board-certified in Family Practice and with a long-time interest in the field of dermatology, has continued her education in the field of cosmetic skin care.

Mark K. Hagberg M.D. received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College and his medical diploma from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is board-certified through the American Board of Family Practice and is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice. Throughout his medical career he has derived great satisfaction treating many dermatological diseases and conditions. Dr. Hagberg has continued his education in cosmetic skin care.
