The newly formed Southern Fried Art Collective plans to have its first group show in December at Sweet Taters cafe. The show will run on Friday, December 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, December 10 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Artwork of various mediums will be on display from over a dozen local up-and-coming artists from the underground scene as well as several local well-known artists. Some artwork will be on sale, just in time for unique, one-of-a-kind holiday gifts.

Collective members Jennifer Aaron and Shawn Jones have worked together to organize a show built almost entirely on grassroots publicity and volunteer effort. A reception is planned for the exhibition’s opening but Aaron says that donations towards making that reception happen are still needed. “We also need volunteers in other areas, such as passing out handbills and helping with the set-up.”

Aaron started the collective as a means to kick start a contemporary arts movement in the Danville area. The collective, which at present has no brick and mortar home, hopes to host events that promote local artists & nurture the region's art scene. Aaron also added that this first show is open to all artists, but future shows will limited to collective members.
