Edmunds.com: 2013 BMW 3 Series Coupe Leads Class in Retained Value

PEABODY, Mass., July 8, 2013 — The fact that the BMW 3 Series is the world's best-selling compact luxury sports sedan bodes well for its resale value, as dealerships know there will always be demand for the model line. That notion was recently reflected in the Edmunds.com 2013 Best Retained Value Awards, with the 2013 BMW 3 Series Coupe topping its segment over the 2013 Audi A5 and 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Using Edmunds.com's True Market Value as a baseline for what buyers actually pay for their new vehicle, the Best Retained Value Awards honor the models in each segment that are projected to maintain the highest percentage of their original purchase price after five years of ownership. The 2013 BMW 3 Series Coupe led the Coupe $35K-$45K category with a five-year retained value of 45.2 percent.

"Luxury buyers turn to the BMW 3 Series for the very latest in performance and technology, and the coupe model's Best Retained Value Award means that its owners will pay less to trade in for a new generation of the vehicle down the road," said Marshal Cabot, general manager of BMW of Peabody, a Massachusetts BMW dealer serving Boston. "The BMW 3 Series is already priced very reasonably considering all the luxury features that buyers get for their money, but its great resale value is what makes the car such a smart purchase."

Drivers will soon know the 3 Series Coupe by another name, as BMW has redesigned the vehicle as the 4 Series Coupe for the 2014 model year. Lighter, lower and wider, the 2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe is sportier than its predecessor, featuring the lowest center of gravity in the brand's lineup while donning a raked rear windshield pulled from the BMW 6 Series. Meanwhile, Air Breathers placed behind the front wheel arches help reduce drag and further differentiate the 4 Series Coupe from the 3 Series Sedan.

Inside, owners of the new BMW 4 Series Coupe will benefit from an abundance of available technologies, including the next-generation Navigation System Professional with 3-D maps, a full-color BMW Head-Up Display showing speed limits and passing zones, and the latest iDrive system with voice-activated POI searches. Buyers will also find more versatility when packing for road trips, as the 4 Series Coupe receives 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats featuring a pass-through from the trunk.

"With the 4 Series, BMW has created a luxury sports coupe with its own identity that rides completely out of the shadow of the 3 Series Sedan," added Cabot. "When it goes on sale late this summer, the BMW 4 Series Coupe will have its own distinct look and driving feel, but it will come with the same levels of advanced technology and premium amenities that attract so many buyers to the 3 Series."
