BMW 4 Series to Launch as an Exclusive Lineup of Sporty Coupes

BALTIMORE, Md., July 19, 2013 — BMW has shuffled its lineup with the creation of its all-new 4 Series, a move that will help the luxury automaker give its popular coupes the spotlight they deserve. No longer members of the BMW 3 Series, which will now be strictly a sedan and sports-wagon lineup, 2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe models are redesigned and retuned to offer a sportier ride. Every BMW coupe will now be designated with an even series number, as the compact 4 Series will be sold alongside the larger executive coupes in the BMW 6 Series.

Arriving at dealerships late this summer, the new BMW 4 Series Coupe will be larger yet lighter than its predecessor, with a more aerodynamic design, improved fuel efficiency and a more aggressive look. Engine choices include a TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 240 horsepower in the 428i and a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder churning out 300 horsepower in the 435i. A responsive six-speed manual transmission will be available at no extra cost as an alternative to the standard eight-speed automatic gearbox, while xDrive all-wheel drive will be an option for added traction on both models.

"Luxury-coupe enthusiasts now have a wider range of choices with the BMW 4 Series, and they can combine high-level performance with the most comfortable interior available," said Melanie Sterry, general manager of Russel BMW, a BMW dealer in Baltimore. "The BMW 4 Series Coupe will also allow owners to choose between eco, comfort and sport driving modes to fit their particular driving style on any given day."

Before departing from the ranks of the 3 Series, BMW's compact coupe recently earned a Best Retained Value Award from Edmunds.com, leading the $35K-$45K Coupe category. The auto-research site projected that the 2013 BMW 3 Series Coupe will hold on to a higher percentage of its original True Market Value after five years, thanks to the ongoing demand for the model and its all-round performance and comfort. The BMW 3 Series Coupe topped competition from the Audi A5 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class to earn its award.

Pricing for the new BMW 4 Series Coupe starts at $41,425, and buyers can already select their options and packages using BMW's comprehensive online-configuration tool at http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/byo/newbyo.aspx?Series=4. The site makes it easy for potential owners to navigate the myriad of choices for the 4 Series, including advanced trim levels like the Sport Line, Luxury Line and the M Sport, all while keeping track of the final look and price of their ideal model.

"The new BMW 4 Series offers plenty of luxurious options for drivers, like the new iDrive user interface with a touchpad, an advanced navigation system and a high-resolution heads-up display," added Sterry. "However, with its improved fuel economy and its ability to resist depreciation, the 4 Series is also a great value in the long run."
