September 3, 2013 - The Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) has long been an example of academic excellence, as their students regularly score exceptionally highly on the International General Certification of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams. The school year of 2012/2013 was no different, as an astonishing number of students achieved A and A* grades in the examinations, resulting in the awards of merit or distinction. In fact, of the 51 students who took the exams, 98% earned awards of merit or distinction, further proof of the academic prestige of the YCIS student body.

YCIS Beijing is not new to outstanding student success, as achieving exemplary grades on the exams is a common occurrence for YCIS Beijing students. Earlier this year YCIS received the Cambridge Award for Excellence in Education, a top honour received from the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) organisation for commitment to world-class education. This marked them as the first and only schooling system in China to receive the award. This award comes after the previous years' achievements of "Cambridge Top in the World IGCSE Award", "Top in China IGCSE Award", "High Achievement in IGCSE Awards" and "Best across Nine Subjects IGCSE Award". The students, parents, staff, administrators and directorate of the YCIS community can be commended for their dedication to this success.

YCIS Beijing students continue to prove how effective the YCIS schooling system has become. When students were asked about the process, they expressed the dedication and hard work that they had put forth to achieve these grades. They were also quick to recognise their teacher's guidance as a contributing factor to their success, with the teacher led curriculum and pre-exam session helping their preparation. YCIS Beijing's Nathan Drisner, who obtained all A and A* grades, sums up this preparation perfectly as he stated, "Our teachers helped so much in terms of preparing us sufficiently for our exams but also within coursework. They allowed us a lot of creative space within the coursework which I personally enjoyed a lot and this probably added some extra motivation for us as we could really put a lot of passion into our work."

YCIS Beijing has consistently displayed their excellence in preparing students for the exams. Another A and A* student, Russell Ng from Singapore, explained "One of the reasons me and my parents chose YCIS Beijing is because of its history of great results and we definitely made the right choice as is evident by how well all the IGCSE students did."

Nonetheless, it is important to congratulate the students on their hard work and resulting success. The YCIS Beijing programme has helped the students to recognise their own potential, and through this realisation the students have been able to achieve commendable grades in their IGCSE's. Even more than that, the students' achievements are the perfect showcase for the dedication, passion and hard work from the entire YCIS community. The students will now move on to the next step in their education, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
