Dr. Melvin Dixon D.D.S. Now Uses CEREC Technology to Enhance Restorative Dentistry Services at His Tuscon Dentist Office

Tucson, AZ — Dr. Melvin M. Dixon D.D.S. has announced the addition of a CEREC chair-side system to the equipment at his dental practice.

CEREC is a new technology developed to assist dentists with restorative dental procedures. The system combines an intra-oral camera with a sophisticated computer-aided drafting and computer-aided manufacturing system to produce custom fit crowns and bridges right in the office.

Crowns and bridges are commonly used to cover teeth that have been damaged or are misshapen and to fill in gaps between teeth. Traditionally, patients who wished to improve the appearance of their smiles with crowns and bridges would need to make more than one appointment with a dental professional. At the first visits, patients' mouths would be measured for dental crowns or bridges. They would then need to return to have the crowns or bridges placed at a later appointment.

With his new CEREC system, Dr. Dixon has consolidated the necessary steps for crown and bridge placement into one single visit. "My team and I can now give patients same-day treatment, which is much more convenient than making two trips. CEREC allows us to correct patients' misshapen or damaged teeth more quickly and ensures a perfect fit for bridges and crowns," he explained.

The CEREC system has been used successfully in 28 million dental restoration procedures around the world since its development. "The technology has repeatedly been proven to improve the success of crowns and dentures and has been evaluated in more than 250 scientific studies. I'm confident that the addition of this new technology to our practice will help my team and greatly simplify restorative dentistry for our patients," said Dr. Dixon.

Along with the CEREC system, Dr. Dixon's practice employs many other cutting-edge technologies to perform dental services. Digital x-rays are used to create clearer images of the mouth and reduce patient exposure to radiation. The practice also features a Velscope for oral cancer screenings and a soft tissue laser system for periodontal treatments.
