Oakton Family Dentistry Adds New Digital Imaging Equipment for Better Treatment Results and Diagnosis

Oakton, Virginia   December 30, 2013   Health News
(PRLEAP.COM) Oakton Va. family dentists, Craig M. Scimeca, DDS, FAGD and Tamer N. Elhady, DMD, FAGD, of Oakton Family Dentistry have always understood that better dental technology allows them to provide more and better family dentistry services to their patients in the Northern Virginia and Fairfax County area.

Digital imaging technology, specifically, allows Drs. Scimeca and Elhady to facilitate a co-diagnosis approach to dentistry that is both safer for the patient, and more environmentally friendly. Digital X-rays, for example, have been used by the practice to reduce the amount of radiation to which patients are exposed, and to enhance images to better explain treatment recommendations. Additionally, digital X-rays require no harsh chemicals to process film and the images can be shared easily if required by an outside specialist.

"Digital imaging has not only made dentistry safer, but it also allows us to approach dentistry differently. When we see a trouble spot in a patient's mouth, we can show them exactly what we see, and that can instill great confidence in the treatment recommendations we make," Dr. Scimeca said. "When we move forward with any treatment, we want our patients to feel absolutely comfortable and understand exactly what we're doing."

Recently, the practice also added a 3D Panoramic/Scan X-ray machine to its array of digital imaging technology. This new X-ray machine allows the practice to take panoramic X-rays of the patient's entire mouth, and also take 3D images of the jawbone. These types of X-rays help Drs. Scimeca and Elhady plan many treatments, such as dental implant placement, more precisely. A 3D scan of the patient's jawbone can reveal many important details in the dental implant planning process such as jawbone integrity, gum health and spacing available for an implant.

"3D imaging is the future of dental implant procedures, and it's something we really wanted to offer our patients. The results are better, the planning is easier and more precise, and it often allows us to approach the placement of dental implants in a less-invasive and more comfortable manner, which is something we always strive for at our practice," Dr. Elhady said.
