Logistics in China Conference + Expo To Feature Roster of Leading International Speakers

Shanghai, China - The China Supply Chain Council (CSCC) today announced that its Logistics in China Conference & Expo will be held March 8, 2006 at the New World Mayfair Hotel, Shanghai, China.

The annual conference will bring together logistics leaders and features one day of presentations, panels, roundtables and workshops that address the strategies and tactics necessary for manufacturers and retailers to build successful intra-China logistics and distribution networks.

Road transportation, which accounts for 74% of China's overall transportation, is still a very fragmented market with more than 5.4 million trucks registered to more than 2 million truckers - three quarters of which are small-scale operators. According to McKinsey & Co, the local providers still dominate the market, with around 80% of the market in the hands of Chinese companies, more than half of which are state-owned enterprises.

Combined with poor asset quality, overloading practices, razor-thin margins, already damaged infrastructure, illegal tolling, red tape, different licenses and permits for each province, multi-levels subcontracting arrangement, manufacturers or retailers can expect over 20% of their Chinese operations costs to be logistics-related, compared with an average of about 10% in western countries.

"For this conference, we are assembling an elite group of leading practitioners who are managing every day all aspects of intra-China logistics and distribution” said Max Henry, Founder & Executive Director of the China Supply Chain Council, "Attendees will learn about the hottest trends affecting the industry, and receive strategic insight, tools and relationship building opportunities to strengthen the value of their domestic China logistics."

Attendees to this conference will learn the latest practices and trends impacting domestic logistics and transportation, including best-in-class case studies from leading companies across China. Presentations will also help conference-goers understand how to manage logistics service providers, implement technologies and gain insight into the most useful metrics to gauge supply network performance.

Logistics in China will include a compact and efficient exhibition space bringing the latest solutions, services and facilities focused on intra-China logistics and transportation. Participation as a sponsor will put any vendor on a platform where they can increase mind share, influence industry perception with senior-level logistics managers in China.
