Verizon Center Gets an LED Video Makeover

Ballston Lake, New York   January 27, 2014   Business News
(PRLEAP.COM) WASHINGTON, D.C. –– The Verizon Center recently underwent a makeover by adding nine LED screens to its exterior, all manufactured and supplied by S|N|A. In addition to improving the arena's aesthetics, the new digital signage provides income opportunities for the property's owner, Monumental Sports & Entertainment.

The Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., is home to the NBA's Washington Wizards, NHL's Washington Capitals, WNBA's Washington Mystics and the Georgetown Hoyas' men's basketball program.

The project features a pair of large S|ThruMedia™ displays on the building's corner at the intersection of F Street and 7th Street. S|ThruMedia™ is S|N|A's LED transparent video display product line. Each display is 21'0" high by 40'4" wide and processes 400 x 768 pixels. The screens are comprised of horizontal LED sticks with a 16mm pixel pitch. Vertically, the sticks are spaced 32mm apart, creating a transparent video effect. The sticks are ultrathin, measuring only 18mm in height, allowing for the tight vertical spacing.

Below the main S|ThruMedia™ screens are five LED displays at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station entrance/exit. The outermost pair of displays, directed toward intersection traffic and pedestrians, are 2'4" high by 21'3" wide (90 x 810 pixels). Both screens have a tight 8mm pixel pitch.

For pedestrians exiting the Metrorail station using the escalator, there are three additional digital displays, all with a very tight 6mm pixel pitch. Two are 1'11" high by 20'10" wide (96 x 1056 pixels) and the third is 5'0" high by 20'10" wide (256 x 1056 pixels).

All Metrorail LED signage is built with S|Video™ technology.

Two other S|Video™ displays are mounted to the west wall of the Verizon Center. Both 23'8" high by 50'5" wide displays have a 10mm pixel pitch and feature a 160-degree tilt mirror each other at the arena's 7th Street entrance. At 720 pixels high by 1536 pixels wide, these are the highest-resolution screens in the project.

All S|Video™ LED displays in the project employ surface-mount device (SMD) technology, where the LEDs in each pixel are packaged together, allowing for crisp, clear imagery and a widened viewing experience.
