CEO of Veriphide, Joe Kristianson, recently responded to charges that his company's software was designed for hackers and data thieves. "Our tools are audit tools plain and simple. If credit card numbers, social security numbers and bank account details are kept in secure locations then there will not be a problem. Our tools allow administrators to inventory whether or not credit card and other sensitive data is encrypted, masked and stored in authorized locations as they should be." The Data Security Crawler is designed to crawl networks and find and harvest sensitive data in easy to read report form. It is the only tool designed and sold for this purpose. Other software providers have called the sale of such tools outrageous. "These are very powerful and tools but safe if in the right hands," responded Mr. Kristianson

Veriphide, http://www.veriphide.com have also release less powerful but capable free tools. Another tool they have released is the Virtual Dumpster Diver Pro which goes through network servers and workstations looking for sensitive files that are supposedly deleted but nevertheless are available to attackers even after being removed from the recycle bin. "These files sit on the system in the recycler folders on servers and workstations and administrators are usually blissfully unaware that they are sitting there and available. Our tool allows admins to easily find those files and quickly delete them for good." http://www.veriphide.com.

Mr. Kristianson recently called for capital punishment for data thieves and other hackers and has been known for controversial stances on issues in the past. Veriphide company statements say that the company is dedicated to the mission of credit card data security and has many information services including a newsletter and a blog at the company site http://www.veriphide.com.
