March 27, 2014   Entertainment News
(PRLEAP.COM) March 27th, 2014, Los Angeles, CA: Eric Edson, a career screenwriter, university professor, and author of the best-selling book, The Story Solution: 23 Actions All Great Heroes Must Take, will share his screenwriting secrets with members of the Palm Springs Writers Guild at their monthly meeting on Saturday, April 5th, 2014. In a presentation entitled, "Cracking Screen Story Structure," Edson will discuss his original concept of a "Hero Goal Sequences" story paradigm that can be used to build dynamic screen stories and keep producers and audiences glued to their chairs.

Edson has written seventeen feature screenplays on assignment for such companies as Sony, Warner Brothers, Disney, Fox, ABC, Showtime, NBC, and TNT. He has written and directed for episodic TV as well. A tenured full professor at California State University, Northridge, he is Director of the CSUN Graduate MFA in Screenwriting Program.

The accomplished screenwriter says that he loves to share his knowledge and experience in the area of movie writing, television writing, and other forms of scriptwriting. He teaches that there is a certain structure which can be followed to create believable heroes in an innovative way which insures effective plotlines for both screenplays and novels. "I'm really looking forward to speaking to the members of the Palm Springs Writers Guild," said Edson. "The art of storytelling can sometimes be frustrating when it doesn't seem like the characters are coming to life. I hope to provide the insight that helps aspiring screenwriters and novelists take their story to the next step."

The Palm Springs Writers Guild helps members turn their writing dreams into reality. It was founded in 1977 by a small group of area residents who all shared an interest in writing. Incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2004, the PSWG now boasts a membership of over 200 writers. Each month PSWG holds a membership meeting that features experienced and informative speakers with topics designed to help members achieve their writing goals. Members can also network with other members and browse author exhibits. Other activities include writing workshops, critique groups, mentoring groups, manuscript review, writing contests, and the Desert Writers Expo.

The April meeting will be held from 2-4 p.m. in the Rancho Mirage Library Community Room, 71100 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage, CA. Since meetings usually average 100-165 people, the PSWG recommends arriving early to get a good seat. Guests are always welcome. The contact person for this meeting is Sunny Simon, VP, PSWG Programs. Those looking to become a member of the Palm Springs Writers Guild are asked to fill out their online membership application.
