In this age of automated transport, television fuelled perceptions and 'cotton-woolled' safety regulations, it is refreshing to realize that there are still some 'back to basics' challenges left untouched.
Despite never having hiked before, George Spearing decided to take 'leave of absence' from his job as a firefighter and walk the length of America.
His recently published paperback, "Dances With Marmots - A Pacific Crest Trail Adventure" ISBN:1411656180 follows his journey through the desert areas and snowbound high Sierra Nevada of California, the Cascade Ranges of Oregon and Washington, finally emerging in the Okanogan Forest of British Columbia, Canada.
The mixture of terrain and characters met along the way provide an interesting and often humorous look at the US and its wilderness through the eyes of a New Zealander.
