August 07, 2014 Business News(PRLEAP.COM) LOS ANGELES, August 7, 2014 – Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group's imprint Taylor Trade has purchased the United States publishing rights to a third book from author/illustrator Ruthie Briggs-Greenberg, entitled "Sea of Echoes", and written by debut writer J. (Jeff) Mac Reed. "Sea of Echoes" tells the story of Finn the fin back whale who navigates the dangerous whale hunting waters of Iceland while he guides and protects other orphan whales on their shared journey.
Ruthie Briggs-Greenberg, a Southern California artist, painter, creator, sculptor and author/ illustrator of Rowman & Littlefield's imprint Taylor Trade Publishing's "Dan The Biggest Dump Truck" (to be released in April 2015) with writer Chris Adams and "Felicity The Dragon" (to be released in fall 2015), started her journey with "Sea of Echoes" by deciding to collaborate with writer J. Mac Reed to craft an emotional tale supported by research and passion.
Briggs-Greenberg's fine art has been exhibited at the Schomburg Art Gallery at Santa Monica's Bergmont Station; California 101 Gallery in Redondo Beach; Gallery 104 in San Clemente and Buenaventura Art Association in Ventura, among other places. J. Mac Reed is a veteran teacher of literature and writing with a Master's Degree from Indiana University. This is Reed's first published book, although he has been writing his whole life. Reed's professional curriculum writing for education led him to develop a complete Common Core Curriculum study guide for Kindergarten to Fifth Grade to accompany "Sea of Echoes" which follows the specific standards of the Common Core Curriculum adopted in forty-three states in the U.S.
"'Sea of Echoes' was a true collaboration with Jeff which grew from a passion for the ocean and the endangered Fin whales," said Briggs-Greenberg. "Our research uncovered the sophisticated cognitive abilities of whales, and their indispensable contribution to our eco-system." Continued Briggs-Greenberg: "I am thankful to Rick Rinehart and the entire Rowman & Littlefield/Taylor Trade team, and I am thankful to my entire team on this book.
"When I first saw Ruthie's paintings, it made me envision a collaboration with her which would be a return to those beautiful Victorian storybooks where the book itself is a work art," said Reed. "Elementary teachers can use this Common Core Curriculum study guide to teach students about literature, writing and speaking and listening skills through the story of Finn, Cea and the other orphan whales." Continued Reed: "I'm thankful to Rowman & Littlefield/Taylor Trade Publishing and to agent Melissa McComas for sourcing this deal."
