Healthcare costs are projected to increase at double digit rates annually. Employer sponsored family healthcare premiums are expected to cost $14,545 on average this year (2006) according to the National Coalition on Healthcare. These rapidly escalating costs damage business by decreasing investment in research, plant and equipment, by depressing wages, and by limiting the ability to make new hires. They make it increasingly difficult to compete in a global marketplace.
