Albanian Outreach Organization Launches Funding Campaign

Atlanta, Georgia – September 25, 2014 – "Albanian Voices has been working to preserve the culture's oral history and increase engagement and understanding of the Albanian community through a digital platform," says Executive Director Ashley Wood. "For the past year and a half, we've been operating our story collection initiative, attending community outreach events, and building up our online presence by volunteering our own time and funds."

"Our organization's support of the Albanian community allows my culture, history and language to be better understood by the rest of the world," explains Vice Director, Bora Shehu. "As the scope and importance of our activities increase, it's important for us to grow and legitimize our organization accordingly."

Albanian Voices launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign at noon on September 16th, 2014 with the goals of funding a story collection trip to Albania as well as covering costs associated with ongoing operations and the organization's pursuit of 501(c)(3) (non-profit) status.

"The crowdfunding format is especially appropriate for our organization since it allows anyone who wishes to be involved in our project" explains Bora. "It lets people contribute at whatever level works for them – even if that's just helping us promote our campaign through social media. We've gotten this far only because of community support, so the crowdfunding method seems extremely appropriate for us."

The Albanian Voices organization promotes the preservation of the Albanian oral history tradition (most of which had remained un-recorded until well into the 20th century) through its story collection and interview initiative as well as educational content promoting digital media literacy.
