October 1, 2014 - Last Saturday, the SC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted a leadership seminar featuring guest speakers Lydia Cotton and Maribel Acosta.

Cotton is North Charleston's liaison to the Hispanic community. A native of Puerto Rico, Cotton helps the community and local Hispanics understand each other better. She aids Hispanics through the most basic issues, helping them to communicate with more confidence and improve their quality of life.

Acosta, a Cuban artist, is the owner of MAG Art Studio in Charleston. Besides teaching fine art, Acosta incorporates her experience in theater by providing free drama lessons to adults and children in the community. She has traveled widely and embraces the beauty of many places and cultures.

Saturday's leadership seminar was an initiative that Hispanic Chamber President Evelyn Lugo began three months ago. She thought it would be a good idea for Cotton and Acosta to share with other leaders and volunteers about the work they are doing in N. Charleston.

"I am very pleased with the outcome of the leadership seminar as many got to hear first-hand of the great work Lydia and Maribel, along with the City of North Charleston, its Mayor and Ms. Rhonda Jerome, Councilwoman are doing in this area," said Lugo. "Their passion and love that they have for our communities are evident, and you can feel that they are genuine."
