October 13, 2014 - Jenkintown, Glenside and Springfield Township PA - Bob Gillies, candidate for PA State Representative from District 154, to Participate in League of Women Voters Forum on October 23, 2014.

Bob Gillies, the Republican candidate for PA State Representative from District 154 will be participating in the League of Women Voters Meet the Candidates Forum. This event takes place October 23rd 7 pm at Curtis Hall in Cheltenham Township. The Republican candidates Robin Gilchrist, Bob Gillies and Dee Adcock will be there with their Democratic opponents. PA District 154 includes Jenkintown, Glenside and Springfield Township, PA.

Bob is very focused on improving the business environment and promoting job creation. That includes jobs that will sustain families and jobs that will provide entry-level positions for those who have been kept out of the job market for far too long. Bob will also devote his efforts to developing a better funding formula for public schools to lower or eliminate the property-tax burden.

Bob believes in education and will work diligently to improve them. He supports schools property tax reform and reforming the tax structure. These reforms include built in controls to prevent excessive spending with voters and school boards having equal power in spending.

Bob also supports local control of curriculum and vouchers for public and private schools. Bob further believes that our schools do not reward low income minority students for excellence and that is wrong. Bob Gillies supports providing vouchers to traditionally underserved students who have achieved academically. He would also allow Parents to use vouchers to choose either public or private schools in or out of traditional districts.

Bob Gillies is a 53 year old, lifelong Montgomery County resident. he has been married for 27 years and has three children. The Gillies family has resided in the 154th Legislative District Community for 27 years.

Bob brings 30 plus years of experience in the construction industry. He started his career as a laborer in Local 332 in Philadelphia. He worked through the ranks and took evening classes in construction management to become a senior project manager. Bob has spent the last 20 plus years involved in the Springfield Township government. When he moved to Oreland 27 years ago Bob started in the local Town Watch then became a member of the Township Planning Commission.

During the past 15 years, Bob's constituents in Springfield's Ward 7 elected him to four consecutive terms as a Township Commissioner. Along with his elected service Bob is an active member of the Oreland Lions as well as being involved in many sports and mentoring programs for the youth of our community.
