Pulse Sensor for Datalogging in Schools

January 11, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Education News
ScienceScope launch the Pulse sensor for schools. As one of the UK’s leading developers of datalogging equipment that provides technology-based science learning solutions, ScienceScope launch the Pulse sensor into schools.

The Pulse sensor gives a practical way to demonstrate the resting, active and recovery rate of the heart while doing exercise. The sensor can be used either in conjunction with a standard chest belt to measure heart rate during exercise or with an ear or finger clip.

As heart disease is more common in the UK than in non-industrialised countries the understanding of lifestyle factors and effects of exercise relating to the heart can be demonstrated in a practical way and can be used to illustrate varying levels of fitness throughout the classroom. Leading to generate discussions on lifestyle factors, genetic factors, factors of society, what the correlation of factors and what the resulting outcomes may be.

The immediacy of the data being collected means that you can run a number of experiments side by side to see the changes in pulse and recovery rate of your students undertaking various exercises. By doing practical datalogging exercises that enable students to experience real-time logging of experiments that can enhance student learning, understanding and evaluation skills assisting with the learning experience.
