To see the best of what Cape Breton has to offer, The Maritime Explorer suggests planning your trip along the Cabot Trail, starting from the town of Baddeck home of Alexander Grand Bell. Make sure to stop and visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, filled with photos and memorabilia from Bell's life and invention of the telephone.

From there, make your way along the coast and take a stop at Ingonish Beach. Featuring impeccable dining, vast waterfront and the 18-hole Highlands Links, Ingonish Beach offers travelers much to do and see on their stop. From there, travelers have the option to continue along the Cabot Trail as it veers inland, or stay along the coast to reveal in the scenery.

The next stop along the way is Pleasant Bay. Known for the best seafood on the island, Pleasant Bay is a foodie's paradise. Make sure to sample the great lobster rolls at the Rusty Anchor and check out the Whale Interpretive Centre for a look into the lives of the area's most fascinating sea creatures. For true nature lovers, the Bog Trail offers a short walk amongst the area's ample wildlife, carnivorous plants and orchids. The boardwalk trail makes the hike accessible to all, even those in wheelchairs and with baby strollers.

Before stopping in the Acadian village of Chéticamp, stop at the Aucoin Bakery in Petit Étang for some of the freshest baguettes and baked goods in the area. Next, don't miss your chance for an up close and personal encounter and hop on one of Chéticamp's whale cruises.

Finally, wrap up your trip by venturing inland through the Margaree River Valley, stopping along the way to take in some authentic Celtic music before making your way back to Baddeck.
