September 25, 2015 - Honolulu, HI- Dr. Keri Do and her associates at Manoa Dental are pleased to announce the launch of a new informative website devoted to Sleep Apnea and Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD).

"Our mission with this new site is to create one central location for patients and doctors alike to find valuable information about Sleep Apnea and TMD treatment," says Dr. Do.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, or TMD refers to a range of conditions caused when the joint connecting the jaw to the skulls become misaligned. These conditions can yield a range of painful symptoms, including headaches and migraines, bruxism or teeth grinding, loss of balance, as well as cause secondary ear, neck, and jaw problems. Due to the range of symptoms, patients often do not realize they suffer from TMD. While the true cause of joint misalignment remains unknown, effective treatment is often reached with the use of oral splints or appliances.

Similar to TMD, sleep apnea is difficult to diagnose as it occurs while the patient is asleep. Affecting more than a million individuals annually, sleep apnea is the obstruction of air flow due to the collapse of soft tissue at the back of the throat. If left untreated, sleep apnea can significantly affect an individual's overall health, causing high blood pressure, headaches, and even heart failure. Following sleep testing diagnosis, patients have a variety of treatment options. Among the most popular and comfortable are oral appliances that push the jaw forward, leaving the airway clear of obstruction.

With this new website, prospective and established patients now have access to comprehensive information where they can learn more about TMD and sleep apnea. In addition to providing background information on the cause and symptoms of both conditions, this website offers in-depth analysis into a variety of treatments, allowing patients to identify the best solution for their unique form of TMD and sleep apnea.

At Manoa Dental, Dr. Do offers counseling and treatment for both TMD and sleep apnea. To provide effective, long-term treatment for each patient's unique TMD, Dr. Do utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to strategically create customized treatment plans that focus on the specific causes of pain.
