November 23, 2015 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
November 23, 2015 - AndroGel lawsuits (http://www.rxinjuryhelp.com/testosterone-androgel/lawsuit/) continue to move forward in the federal testosterone litigation now underway in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. According to court papers filed on November 2nd, 32 cases in which Abbvie, Inc. is named as the only defendant have been selected for the proceeding's AndroGel bellwether trial pool. The Court had previously indicated that it would conduct six AndroGel bellwether trials between October 2016 and April 2017. "Our Firm is representing a number of AndroGel lawsuit plaintiffs, and we are pleased that this litigation is moving closer to the first bellwether trials. The outcome o f these trials could provide insight into jury decisions in similar testosterone lawsuits involving AndroGel," says Sandy A. Liebhard, a partner at Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently representing a number of clients who have filed testosterone treatment lawsuits, and continues to offer free case reviews to men who may have been harmed by these medications.

Testosterone Litigation
Court documents indicate that more than 3,238 testosterone lawsuits are currently pending in the Northern District of Illinois. All of these cases were filed on behalf of men who suffered heart attacks, strokes and other serious cardiovascular events, allegedly due to their use of prescription low-T therapy medications, including AndroGel, AndroDerm, Axiron, and Testim. The Court has indicated that it will convene two series of bellwether trials, one involving AndroGel cases and the second for other medications included in the litigation. Trials involving the other low-T therapies likely won't begin until late 2017.

Testosterone lawsuits began to mount shortly after the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) launched a review of the cardiovascular risks potentially associated with prescription testosterone products in January 2014. On March 3, 2015, the FDA ordered the manufacturers of prescription low-T therapies to update their labels with information regarding a potential association with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. The FDA also directed that the labels clearly state that the drugs have not been proven safe and effective for treating low testosterone related to male aging.

Men who were allegedly harmed by low testosterone therapy may be eligible to file their own claim in this litigation.
