March 29, 2016 - The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services of Trinidad and Tobago engaged WIAL Caribbean to deliver Foundations in Action Learning to its leaders and aspiring leaders. In opening the workshop, Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Jacinta Bailey-Sobers exhorted the group to champion the building of strong effective teams across the Ministry so that the desired transformation can be achieved. The Permanent Secretary declared that this venture into Action Learning is aimed at expanding the organization's leadership stock and developing new and innovative capabilities for continuous problem-solving among divisions and on behalf of the client-groups of the Ministry.

The twenty-two participants who successfully completed the workshop were drawn from various departments and represented a wide range of job functions. They showed great enthusiasm for the Action Learning process, which they practiced during the workshop to build leadership skills and to generate breakthrough strategies for addressing real-life problems. The entire group articulated specific ways in which this new tool could be applied in their respective teams to improve results.

Based on the positive reception by the target group, Permanent Secretary Bailey-Sobers has asked WIAL Caribbean to administer the advanced workshops to selected members of her staff so that they may all complete the WIAL Certification for Action Learning Coaches by the end of the second quarter of 2016. Her vision is that the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services will have a full complement of Certified Action Learning Coaches at all levels to drive needed performance improvement and transformation in the Ministry and the wider public sector.
